🕋 5 Days of Hajj – Complete Guide with Masail (Islamic Rulings)

Hajj is the sacred pilgrimage to Makkah and a fundamental pillar of Islam. It is performed from 8th to 12th Dhul-Hijjah. The Hajj journey includes stops at Mina, Arafah, Muzdalifah, and the Jamaraat. Below is a comprehensive breakdown of each day, along with relevant Masla-Masayel (Islamic rulings).

📅 Day 1: 8th Dhul-Hijjah (Yawm at-Tarwiyah) – Mina

🔹 Description:

  • Pilgrims wear Ihram and make the intention (niyyah) for Hajj.

  • Travel to Mina, located about 8 km from Makkah.

  • Offer Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr (next day) prayers in Mina.

  • Spend the night in worship, dua, and rest.

⚖️ Masail:

  • Ihram must be worn before leaving Makkah.

  • All prayers are shortened (Qasr) but offered at their fixed times (not combined).

  • Staying in Mina on the 8th is Sunnah Muakkadah.

📅 Day 2: 9th Dhul-Hijjah (Yawm Arafah) – Arafah, Muzdalifah

🔹 Description:

  • After Fajr in Mina, pilgrims head to Arafah.

  • Perform Wuquf (standing in supplication) at Arafah from Zawal (midday) to Maghrib.

  • Pray Dhuhr and Asr combined at Masjid Namirah (or in tents).

  • After sunset, depart for Muzdalifah without praying Maghrib.

  • Pray Maghrib and Isha combined upon arrival in Muzdalifah, then rest.

⚖️ Masail:

  • Wuquf at Arafah is the most critical pillar (Rukn) of Hajj. Missing it nullifies Hajj.

  • Combining Dhuhr and Asr is Sunnah at Arafah.

  • Delaying Maghrib until Muzdalifah is Wajib.

  • Overnight stay in Muzdalifah is also Wajib (mandatory).

📅 Day 3: 10th Dhul-Hijjah (Yawm an-Nahr) – Mina, Jamaraat, Qurbani

🔹 Description:

  • After Fajr in Muzdalifah, collect 70 small pebbles.

  • Proceed to Mina, perform Rami of Jamarah al-Aqaba (7 stones).

  • Offer the Qurbani (sacrifice).

  • Perform Halq (shaving) or Taqsir (trimming) of hair.

  • Remove Ihram (first Tahallul).

  • Perform Tawaf al-Ifadah and Sa’i in Makkah.

⚖️ Masail:

  • Rami of Jamarah al-Aqaba is Wajib, must be done after sunrise.

  • Sacrifice is Wajib for Hajj Tamattu’ and Qiran pilgrims.

  • Shaving is more rewarding than trimming.

  • Tawaf al-Ifadah is a Fardh act and cannot be skipped.

📅 Day 4: 11th Dhul-Hijjah – Mina, Three Jamaraat

🔹 Description:

  • Stay in Mina.

  • Perform Rami (stoning) of the three Jamaraat:

    1. Jamarah al-Sughra (small)

    2. Jamarah al-Wusta (middle)

    3. Jamarah al-Kubra (big)

  • Each is pelted with 7 stones, in order after Zawal (midday).

⚖️ Masail:

  • Rami must begin after Zawal — before that is invalid.

  • Order is essential: Sughra → Wusta → Kubra.

  • Dua is made after Sughra and Wusta, not after Kubra.

📅 Day 5: 12th Dhul-Hijjah – Rami & Optional Departure

🔹 Description:

  • Repeat Rami of all three Jamaraat after Zawal.

  • After stoning, pilgrims can either:

    • Leave Mina before Maghrib (this is called Nafr-e-Awwal), or

    • Stay for the 13th and perform Rami again (Nafr-e-Thani).

⚖️ Masail:

  • Leaving Mina after Maghrib requires staying for the 13th and repeating Rami.

  • Rami is Wajib on each of the three days.

  • If physically unable, Rami can be done by a representative.

📅 Optional Day 6: 13th Dhul-Hijjah (if stayed in Mina)

🔹 Description:

  • Final day of Rami.

  • Stoning of all three Jamaraat again after Zawal.

  • After Rami, pilgrims may now depart from Mina permanently.

⚖️ Masail:

  • Staying on the 13th is Sunnah but not obligatory.

  • Missing Rami without valid excuse requires Dam (penalty).
